Herdade dos Outeiros Altos
Herdade dos Outeiros Altos, located near the town of Estremoz, is one of the few to practice organic farming in the Alentejo region. Starting as a small family business, the year 2012 marked the birth of the Outeiros Altos trademark.
The purpose of this sustainable, environmentally friendly and promoter of biodiversity farming project, is to create authentic and customized wines that express all the richness of its terroir, based on indigenous grape varieties, and promote the local culture dating back to 2000 years, to the Roman era.
The vineyards, settled on schistous slopes, with a total area of six hectares, are spread through three parcels with different altitudes, ranging from 300 to 350 meters, and different exposures. The vineyards coexist with cork oak trees forest, olive trees and natural pastures.
The grape varieties are Aragonez, Trincadeira, Touriga-Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Alfrocheiro Preto and Tinta Caiada for the red/rosé wines and Antão Vaz and Arinto, for the white ones (not yet in production).
All the vineyards are farmed since the early ‘00s, ecologically. The soil fertilizations are based on plant sowing and organic fertilizers and the treatments are based on the use of sulfur, copper, sea algae, clay, plant extracts and other natural products.
We were pioneers in making the first certified organic and DOC Alentejo Talha wine.
Our wines are produced in limited quantities of just a few thousand bottles per year. They are all certified organic and controlled appellation DOC Alentejo.
